Math Skills in Two-Year-Olds Through Everyday Activities

Hey Mumma, did you know that I can start learning math now? Let’s do some fun activities together to help me understand numbers and counting.

  1. Check Math Understanding

Mumma, show me your fingers! You can ask me, “How many fingers am I holding up?” I love trying to count them. This helps me learn about numbers.

  1. Focus on Counting

Hey Dadda, let’s count things together! We can count cars passing by, books on the shelf, or even my fingers and toes. It’s so much fun and helps me understand numbers better.

  1. Practice Subitizing

Mumma, can we play a game? You show me two blocks and ask how many there are without counting. This helps me recognize small groups of objects quickly.

  1. Compare: More, Less, or Equal

Dadda, let’s use my snacks for a fun game. We can have two bowls with berries or pretzels and compare which bowl has more or less. This helps me understand comparison.

  1. Counting in Everyday Routines

Mumma, can I help set the table? I can put four napkins on the table. And when we clean up my toys, we can count how many blocks to put away. This makes counting part of our daily life.

  1. Early Addition and Subtraction Games

Dadda, show me one block, then hide it behind your back and ask me how many blocks are there. This helps me learn about adding and taking away.

  1. Incorporate Songs and Books

Mumma, let’s sing songs and read books about numbers. Songs like “One, Two, Buckle My Shoe” or reading books with counting in the story are so much fun and help me learn.

These activities are fun and help me understand math. Can we do them together, Mumma and Dadda?
