Head Turning: An Expert Mom's Crucial Advice for Newborn Care

Mummy Daddy, it's such an exciting and magical time when you welcome me into your family, but I know it can also be a little stressful at times. You may have seen that I tilt or turn my head to the side a lot. You may be wondering how to support my newborn care. Do not worry, this is a normal part of my growth!

Moving my head slowly from side to side is very important for my health and growth. Use flashcards  to get my attention if I seem to be leaning toward one side. This will help me with symmetrical head shaping and prevent flat spots. Please be careful not to hurt my head and neck. You should tell my doctor if I feel stiff or can't turn, as early intervention might be needed.

Understanding Head Positioning in Newborns

I know that when I joined your family, it made you happy and maybe a little worried. You may have seen that I tilt or turn my head to the side a lot. A lot of kids do this, and it's all part of baby development. Please help me move my head in different directions slowly. This will help strengthen my neck muscles and keep my head round. If I seem to lean toward one side, you can use simple black-and-white flashcard to help me look the other way. Be very gentle with my head and neck. If I feel stiff or resist turning, you should talk to my doctor about occupational therapy for more help

Why Do Newborns Tend to Twist?

Before I was born, I was curled up against the wall of your tummy. Because of this, I learned to tilt my head more to one side. My muscles are still getting bigger and stronger now that I'm here. It might look like I prefer turning my head that way more sometimes, but that's just how my neck muscles are right now. Understanding this can help with flat spots prevention and support my balanced development.

How to Help Me Turn My Head Right

In Various Settings: There are times when you can help me turn my head from side to side: in my sling, during tummy time, while you hold me, or while I sleep on my back.

Encourage Equal Looking: If I always look to one side, move me around so I look at the other side too. On the side I don’t prefer, you can place a bright black-and-white picture. I’ll naturally turn my head toward it

Be Kind: When you help me turn my head, always be gentle. Do not push my neck if it feels stiff or if I resist turning. If this happens, talk to my doctor about occupational therapy for guidance.

Benefits of Balanced Head Movement

Turning my head stops flat spots and keeps it off the ground. It makes the muscles in my neck stronger, which will help me learn to crawl and sit up. I can also see and understand the world better when I move my head. Thanks for making me healthy and strong.
